1) Patrick Mahomes
This. Kid. Can. Throw. He absolutely lit the league up last season. 5097 passing yards, 50 passing touchdowns, 272 rushing yards and 2 rushing touchdowns. The Kansas City Chiefs receiving corps is top tier with Tyreek Hill, Sammy Watkis, and Travis Kelce. They cut Kareem Hunt last season but found a great replacement with Damien Williams. With the off season addition of Carlos Hyde, This offense could be unstoppable. They face the toughest schedule of any team this season. Even with that against them, plan to see the high powered offense return. My prediction is 4885 passing yards, 43 passing touchdowns, 343 rushing yards, 4 rushing touchdowns.
2) Deshaun Watson
The Houston Texans have one of the best wide receivers in the league with DeAndre Hopkins. He is the type of wide receiver quarterbacks dream of. Add in a healthy Will Fuller, rookie Keke Coutee and a dangerously mobile quarterback and the field just opens up for the pass game. Assuming Will Fuller stays healthy this season, I think we will see Watson’s passing yardage increase. His rushing game is excellent with 551 rushing yards and 5 rushing touchdowns he has proven he can extend plays. Throw in 4165 passing yards with 26 passing touchdowns and you get the 5th best quarterback last season. His passing attempts fell mid season but continued to climb towards the end. I think that trend will continue. He will end up 2nd this season with 4356 passing yards, 28 passing touchdowns, 449 rushing yards and 4 rushing touchdowns. A quick note: At first glance I had Deshaun Watson ranked 5th on my list. After number crunching my predictions he actually wound up in 2nd place. Like I said before, his rushing game is dangerous.
3) Drew Brees
He was originally ranked 2nd on my list but fell to 3rd after the my predictions. It is with good reason that I have him ranked so high this season. First and foremost lets address the chip the Saints have on their shoulders. The way their last two seasons have ended have been heart breaking. The first being the Stefon Diggs touchdown and the second being the worst non call pass interference play anyone had ever seen. If anyone has a drive to win this season it’s this team. Add in a top offense with Michael Thomas, a contender for top wide receiver this season, Alvin Kamara, and underrated Ted Ginn and you have the recipe for success. Last season Drew Brees finished as the 8th best quarterback with 3992 passing yards, 32 passing touchdowns, 22 rushing yards and 4 rushing touchdowns. I have a feeling that this season is going to be different for this team. My prediction for Brees is 4539 passing yards, 36 touchdowns, 26 rushing yards and 3 rushing touchdowns.
4) Matt Ryan
Matty Ice saw a fantasy football resurgence last season after finishing outside of the top 10 quarterbacks in 2017. He finished 3nd in 2018 with a 4923 passing yards, 35 passing touchdowns, 125 rushing yards and 3 rushing touchdowns. I’m predicting another very good season for Ryan. The Julio Jones/Matt Ryan connection could arguably be the best quarterback/wide receiver connection in the league. Between Devonte Freeman, Austin Hooper and Calvin Ridley this offense is primed for fantasy points. Ryan will have 4351 passing yards, 33 passing touchdowns, 145 rushing yards and 2 rushing touchdowns.
5) Aaron Rodgers
Aaron Rodgers is the type of quarterback that doesn’t usually play favorites. If a wide receiver is open then that’s who he is throwing to. The play isn’t there? Then he’s rolling out of the pocket and using his feet to pick up the first down. The Green Bay Packers had an interesting 2018 under a new offensive coordinator and quarterback coach. Then after the 2018 season had ended the Green Bay Packers had fired head coach Mike McCarthy after 13 seasons with the team. Hopefully they can get it together and have a winning season under Matt LaFleur and new offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett. Changing up offensive coordinators and head coaches season to season could mess with a quarterback. I think they know who they have behind the wheel and they are going to trust Rodgers. Last season Aaron Rodgers was projected to be the number one fantasy quarterback. However he ended the season 7th with 4442 passing yards, 25 passing touchdowns, 269 rushing yards and 2 rushing touchdowns. This season he will end up 5th with 4537 passing yards, 30 passing touchdowns, 241 rushing yards and 1 rushing touchdown.
